Hillside Garden - Nelson

A steep site on the hills behind Nelson, subject to extreme winds generated from the south. As a green field double site, the brief required that the opportunity to subdivide in the future be retained, and access around the site be accommodated. Wind and a desire for colour in a low maintenance environment dictated the selection of species.

Terracing and the use of rock walls generated flatter areas and attractive circulation around a very steep site. The challenge was to establish a vegetation structure that would then create micro-climates within which the owners could enjoy a more detailed and colourful domestic landscape.
